The time is almost upon us in Newcastle

Back in September 2009 Sam ( @purplelime )over at Fruitbytes.co.uk gave the people of Newcastle the heads up about the retail store us northern geeks were waiting for.  Our very own Apple Store.

With less than six days till opening I took a quick look back at the original floor plans of Eldon Square’s new south wing to remind me what I was getting excited about.  I’m now a little worried about what we may get from our new Apple Store.

I’m not going to write anything off till I get into the place myself; but if you look at the size of the Apple Store unit and compare it to the Top Shop unit opposite it. Top Shop normally have some good size stores so it would suggest that the new Apple Store in comparison will be of a good size.  If however you picture the size of most of the stores in Eldon Square (if you have been there and are able to do that) you will be aware that they aren’t very big.

Take a look at this digital walk through of the new wing of Eldon Square.

The size of the units shown don’t seem to be that big.  What if our new Apple store is just a baby version of what you would expect from an Apple store?  I’m not saying that I expect a London or New York sized store; but I do want a store that will do Newcastle justice.

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

What do you think the Apple Store will bring to Newcastle?

Are you planning on visiting on opening day?

Do you care?

Boxing the one-eyed champ at our expense

Jacqui Smith’s (The Home Secretary) husband, Richard Timney has been discovered stroking his love pump at the expense of tax payers.  The media has made it very clear that they are appalled by it and we the public will also be; actual I just think it’s a bunch of wank.

Let me start with a quick brake down of what’s happened:

•    Jacqui Smith (already getting stick for expenses claims) put in an expenses claim for internet and tv services with Virgin Media at her family home.
•    Turns out her Husband Richard had treated himself to £10 worth of Frankie Vaughan on pay per view while his wife was elsewhere.
•    The expenses are paid for by tax payers.

Now I don’t want to pay for a bunch of crap that our MP’s don’t really need especially when an MP gets paid £63k per year.  That said they are allowed to claim most of there living expenses with in some set rules.  So I’m going to put myself out here and defend (not Jacqui Smith – I think she’s a cow) Richards pornfest.

•    Virgin Media say that they give “discreet billing” on Adult content.

How the hell can it be discreet if the whole country knows about Richard’s “squeeze the cream from the flesh twinkie”.  Shouldn’t this be a news storey about how rubbish Virgin Media are at hiding the details of what your watching.  I can tell you after this I’m not going to be paying for any porn with Virgin as I run the risk of my girl finding out about it.  I can however tell you that if you ever stay in a hotel with work on a “full account back to company” booking your company do not get any information on any Adult film purchased.  Now I’m not saying that this is in every hotel chain but I can tell you that its with at least 8 different one.  Not that saying I have the record of the most Adult content charged to my company and even if I did I would still suggested you hit the web.

•    Have you seen Jacqui Smith?

SmithI’m sure Richard loves his wife.  I’m sure they do have a sex life.  Not being funny but if his wife is away on work during a time where she is stressed up to the eye balls with work; you just know she’s not been putting out.  I’m also going to say that the imagery of having sex with Jacqui wouldn’t give most hot blooded males much of a rise.  So what better way to chill out than with a bit of boxing the one-eyed champ; and if you should partake in such an activity then Frankie is your man.

Come on Cops check out my hard Drive!

The plan from the Home Office (driven by the EU) is to allow Police to remotely access peoples computers with out having to apply to the courts for the privilege.

Now I’m all for a easier and quicker way for the Home Office and the Police to track down things like Paedophilla and Terrorism while bypassing the court for the purpose of evidence collection.  The word is that they will have to get authorization from a Chief Constable before being allow to do this but the problem with this is the police having access to technology/software to access people’s computers remotely.  How do we know they aren’t going to be looking for naked pictures of peoples wife’s?

I’m not saying that the Police are going to be running around “looking though peoples windows from the helicopter” but giving them the tools to “hack” and lowering the rules on when and how they can do this; may open up a risk in peoples privacy that is not necessary.  Information released by the home office say that in 2007/8 the Police hacked into 194 computers in the UK, all of them with a court order.  What they haven’t released however is how many of these “Hacks” resulted in an arrest.  So why would they need to bypass the courts when in two years they have only needed to hack into peoples computer around 8 times per month.    Even if the number of times they need to do this triple in the next two years it will still be a small blip on the bigger picture.

Do you think the Police should be able to access people computers remotely and when is it right to do this?
