“Check in” @ the cupboard under the stairs

Being playing around with the Foursquare the social “location tagging” service and I’ve been loving it…..BUT!

Nobody seems to know what the hell they are doing with it.   Other than clocking points and becoming the mayor of your most visited locations I have seen very little sign of social interaction.

The service could be great for when you visit a location you haven’t been to before.  If people have added good descriptive tips about what bars and restaurants offer, what the atmosphere is like or how good the service is; you can always ensure you end up in the right place.

When your in your local area however the main benefit has to be meeting up with people to say hello (not that you can’t do this while your away from home base just your more likely to connect with somebody local).  One of the problems with this is making sure locations are tagged in a way that makes this easier.  A bar should be straight forward; you in the bar or not!  When it comes to locations like a clothing store your not likely to want to meet up with anyone; your shopping.  Do you check in to the whole street that the shops are on, “Northumberland Street”, “Princess Street” or even the whole city centre?

I don’t’ have an answer for you; so I’m asking.

Do we need some loose guidelines on what type of locations we should be tagging and checking into?

Should you be adding better quality tips for people visiting your area?

Your comments are welcome.

A glass and a half of loss

Its been one of the greatest British brands for 186 Years. John Cadbury went from selling a hot chocolate drinks and turned it into a chocolate empire. Today the money men have given into greed and sold out to the cheese maker Kraft.
Lets just hope they don’t mess about with John’s chocolate genius and go all American on us.
I thought I would mark the passing of the end of a British institution; with a reminder of one of the reasons almost everybody in the UK loves Cadbury and it’s not just the chocolate:

Sweet and Sticky

Just a quick post for today due to Saturdays Night being a “My Girl” night.

With it being a “My Girl” night I thought I would share with you the Lush meal she just made for me.  Chicken soaked in Nandos Sweet and Sticky Marinade for 24 hours.  I would highly recommend it; but don’t forget your own home made flag.

Dr MakaMats

For today’s post I was trying to find some not very interesting facts to share with you all but ended up on a click through trip around Wikipedia looking at inventions and inventors.

Yoshiro Nakamatsu the inventor of the CD, DVD and Floppy disc also know as just “Dr. NakaMats”.  A man that I feel like I should already be aware of, due to his CD, DVD intention.  Today was in fact the first time I have ever heard of him and maybe the first time you have too.

With over 3000 inventions under his belt he is one cleaver but crazy man:

Most Useless Machine Ever

It’s day off time tomorrow so I figured I would make today’s blog post a nice and easy affair. What better way of trying to find some interesting crap on the internet than to cheat; just press the Stumble button attached to my web browser.

After a number of interesting videos and sites about fonts I came across “the most useless machine ever!” and found that I was completely fascinated and amused by it.

Full credit for this amazing find must goes to Erdëm GULTEKIN

The most useless machine ever!

If anyone know where I can get one please let me know.

Evenings entertainment – Legend

My entertainment for this evening the cult classic Film Legend.

I’ve always had fond memory’s of the film from being a kid most notably the image of the Devil in it has stuck with me.  Tim Curry as the Devil is without a shadow of a doubt how I would expect the evil man to look and sound if I was to meet him in person.

Every time I watch the film I notice something new about it like the first time I realised that Tom Cruise was the main character (after this he starred in Top Gun) or how visually impressive it is considering it was made back in 1985.

I’m no film geek; I don’t know the name of most actors or even the names of some films so don’t judge me when I tell you what I noticed for the first time today.  Tonight I noticed the Director of it…. The Great Ridley Scott.  Director of two of the best SiFi films ever made; first Alien then my favourite; Blade Runner.  He followed that up with Legend.

If you haven’t seen it yet do yourself  a favour and get over to play.com and order it…. Its worth the five English pounds they are asking then let me know what you think:

What to 365? That is the question!

At the start of this year I made the very educated decision not to start the Flickr 365 project due to me not being able to commit that much time into the project.  Instead of committing each and every day to processing and uploading; never mind taking the actual picture I had to find me another plan.  That said I do know some people that have taken up the challenge with some quality images, Paul White is has some of my favorite with  some inventive subject images from Alistair UK.
So my second idea was to drop it back to the PIC 52 project.  One picture each week, simply.  My only problem is I tried it last year and it just didn’t happen; I only got to about week 6 before I called it a day, as I just didn’t have the pictures and didn’t want to cheat.  If you want to see someone that has made the most of the 52 PIC project check out Craig Rodway’s set with his genius Lego men on location.
My attempt at Pic 52 this years has also gone to the dogs, with only the first two weeks done.  I have to face it; my ability to fail at the task so far is great that my success. What I need is a way to get myself onboard with the task in hand.  A project that is easy to complete that will help me drive a behavior in myself to ensure that next time I start a 365 project I am more focused and used to taking pictures on a daily basis.
A quick sit back to look at the options; what do I do every day?  1 – Take a crap? Very wrong. 2 – Use my laptop?  I don’t think doing a screen dump everyday is going to get my inspired to move on to some quality photography at any point.  3 – Use my mobile phone? Well I have a camera on my phone so I could…. {Sips from cup of tea.}

Yes you’ve guest it – Beverage 365.  My plan is to take one photo of every (well just about every) drink I have everyday.  My promise is to not overload you with too much on my Flickr / Twitter feeds.  I will try to make my pictures as interesting as possible and give you (a best I can) an incite into what I’ve been up to;  I know none of you actually care about what I’ve been up to but that’s what I going to do… so 😛
